Atlanta Braves Could Make a BIG Splash by Signing Bo Bichette as Their Future Third Baseman

The Atlanta Braves could have an intriguing opportunity to add another star to their lineup this offseason, and one name worth monitoring is Bo Bichette.

The two-time All-Star is approaching a major contract decision with the New York Mets, potentially giving Atlanta an opportunity to pursue one of baseball’s most recognizable infielders.

With the Braves looking to improve their roster heading into 2027, could Bichette become Atlanta’s long-term answer at third base?

Bo Bichette Facing Major Contract Decision

Bichette signed a three-year, $126 million contract with the Mets before the 2026 season, but his deal includes an opportunity to opt out this offseason.

The 28-year-old must decide whether to remain in New York or test free agency again.

However, leaving the Mets won’t be an easy decision.

Bichette is coming off a disappointing 2026 campaign in which he hit .260 with 18 home runs, 78 RBIs and a .702 OPS.

With $86 million remaining on his contract, exercising his opt-out would be a significant financial gamble.

Still, if Bichette decides to explore the market, the Braves should at least make a phone call.

Why Bichette Could Be an Excellent Fit in Atlanta

One of Atlanta’s biggest challenges in recent seasons has been finding consistent offensive production throughout its lineup.

Bichette could provide another dangerous right-handed bat alongside Ronald Acuña Jr., Matt Olson, Austin Riley and Ozzie Albies.

Throughout his career, Bichette has demonstrated an ability to hit for average, produce extra-base hits and consistently put the ball in play.

His offensive upside makes him an intriguing addition to a Braves lineup that already features several established stars.

Bichette also brings positional flexibility. After spending most of his career at shortstop with Toronto, he transitioned to third base with the Mets in 2026.

That experience could make him an option for Atlanta if the organization considers reshuffling its infield.

What Would This Mean for Austin Riley?

Of course, there’s one major obstacle to bringing Bichette to Atlanta.

The Braves already have Austin Riley at third base.

Riley remains under a long-term contract, and Atlanta has invested heavily in making him a cornerstone of the franchise.

Signing Bichette would likely require the Braves to explore a position change, a trade or another significant roster adjustment.

There’s also the question of whether Bichette represents enough of an upgrade to justify another expensive contract.

Still, Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos has emphasized remaining open-minded about potential offseason improvements.

If Atlanta believes Bichette can return to his previous All-Star form, exploring his availability could make sense.

Should the Braves Make a Move?

The Braves have championship expectations, and adding another proven offensive player could help them compete with the National League’s best teams.

Bichette would bring experience, name recognition and the potential to strengthen an already talented lineup.

However, his contract situation, defensive limitations and Atlanta’s existing commitment to Riley make this far from a straightforward move.

There have been no confirmed reports of the Braves actively pursuing Bichette, and he must first decide whether to become a free agent.

But if the opportunity presents itself, Atlanta should explore the possibility.

Braves Country, would you want Bo Bichette in Atlanta? And would adding him make the Braves legitimate World Series contenders in 2027?
