The 2026 NBA All-Star Tournament felt like a party for Anthony Edwards.
In typical Edwards fashion, the superstar shooting guard looked like he was having the time of his life. He went right at a hyper-competitive Victor Wembanyama, embraced the spotlight, and was predictably brilliant on his way to winning All-Star MVP.
But as electric as his on-court performance was, it might not have been the most important moment of the night.
That came after the final buzzer.

“I Can’t Wait to Come Home”
A video surfaced of Edwards chatting with Jalen Johnson in the post-All-Star scrum. At one point, Edwards covered his mouth and appeared to tell Johnson:
“I can’t wait to come home.”
He followed that up by praising the Hawks’ roster construction.
“Home,” of course, means Atlanta.
Edwards was born and raised there. He played two seasons of college basketball at the University of Georgia. He’s repped the city every chance he’s gotten — from interviews to rocking Atlanta gear on national stages. And during All-Star introductions, he made it even clearer. He flipped his backward Braves hat forward and pointed at the Atlanta logo.
The message was loud!

Is There Real Fire Behind the Smoke?
At face value, there’s no immediate reason for Edwards to want out of Minnesota.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have reached the last two Western Conference Finals. They’re contenders. Edwards is the franchise cornerstone and has three years left on a five-year, $244 million deal.
That’s not a situation you leave lightly. But here’s where it gets interesting.
What happens if Minnesota stalls?
What if the Timberwolves fail to reach another conference finals this spring? What if they hit a ceiling they can’t break through?
Edwards is, at minimum, a top-six NBA player. Elite competitors at that level don’t tend to tolerate stagnation. If frustration sets in — whether it’s about roster construction, coaching, or playoff shortcomings — history tells us that superstars often get what they want.
Contracts don’t stop movement in today’s NBA.
Desire does.

The Allure of Home
Don’t underestimate the pull of home.
NBA relationships can flip quickly. Contenders can feel stable one month and tense the next. All it takes is one playoff disappointment or internal friction to shift the tone.
Playing for your hometown team — especially one that appears to be on the rise — carries a different weight.
Atlanta is building something intriguing. Jalen Johnson is ascending. The roster has youth, length, and versatility. The wing room is loaded with upside.
Edwards openly acknowledged that.
If Minnesota stays on track and wins big, this conversation fades.
But if they stay in neutral? If they plateau?
Don’t be shocked if the whispers get louder.

The Takeover That Felt Like a Preview
The All-Star Tournament might go down as more than just a highlight reel.
It may have been a preview.
Johnson and Edwards looked unstoppable together. The chemistry felt real. The energy felt natural.
And when a superstar says he “can’t wait to come home,” even in a half-whispered moment, fans notice.
The Hawks may not be on the move for Anthony Edwards today.
But if circumstances shift?
Atlanta could be waiting with assets, opportunity, and a city ready to welcome its superstar back.
And that possibility just got a whole lot more real. 🔥🏀
