THREE Moves the Atlanta HAWKS Need to Make NOW!
The Atlanta Hawks have some work to do if they want to be serious contenders next season. With the offseason in full swing, here are three crucial moves the Hawks should make right now to elevate their game and aim for the playoffs.
1. Trade Clint Capela
Let's talk about the elephant in the room – Clint Capela. Now, don’t get me wrong, Capela has been a beast on the boards and a defensive anchor, but it’s time for a change. With whispers of interest from the Lakers and the Knicks, the Hawks need to strike while the iron is hot. Picture this: the Knicks sending Julius Randle to LA, the Hawks receiving Rui Hachimura and a couple of picks, and Capela heading to New York. This blockbuster trade not only shakes up the roster but brings in athletic wing depth and future assets. Alternatively, Capela to the Lakers for Hachimura and a pick or two could also work wonders. Imagine the Hawks with more versatile wings who can shoot and create – it’s a win-win!
2. Sign Another Scorer
The Hawks need more firepower, plain and simple. Trae Young can't do it all alone, and while the team boasts some solid 3-and-D players, another dynamic scorer is essential. Enter Spencer Dinwiddie, Tyus Jones, or Luke Kennard. Dinwiddie, despite a down year with LA, could thrive with more minutes and the chance to shine in Atlanta. Picture him racking up 12-14 points a game with the second unit – yes, please! Tyus Jones, another great option, brings efficiency and the ability to run the offense while also scoring. And let’s not forget Luke Kennard, a three-point sniper who would fit perfectly in Quin Snyder’s system. Surround Trae with shooters, and the Hawks' offense will be flying high.
3. Clear Roster Space
The Hawks’ roster is a bit crowded right now. With 14 players under contract and a few more on the bubble, it's time to make some cuts. Trading Capela is a start, but the Hawks should also consider moving Cody Zeller or just outright cutting him to free up space. On the wings, De’Andre Hunter's name has been floated in trade rumors. Including him in a blockbuster deal could bring in more picks and young talent. Then there’s the matter of the back end of the bench – tough decisions need to be made about players like Bruno Fernando and Garrison Matthews. It’s all about creating room for the young guns like Jalen Johnson and potentially giving them the reps they need to develop.
With these moves, the Hawks can build a more balanced, dynamic team ready to make some noise in the Eastern Conference. It's all about smart trades, strategic signings, and clearing the path for the future stars. So, Hawks fans, buckle up – the future could be very bright indeed!
